Located at the rear of JW Marriott’s Phuket Resort & Spa’s lobby area is their Italian Restaurant Cucina, and in December of 2013 the restaurant reopened after 2 months of extensive renovations, which not only saw the an expanded concept, but also a new menu, new bar, renovation of the wine shop and increased seating capacity on the al fresco terrace, as well as the installation of sliding doors around this section to offer protection from weather should they be required.
The setting of the JW Marriott’s Cucina restaurant is simply stunning, with huge windows overlooking a pine lined beach and the sea.
Prior to the renovations, Cucina was already touted by many as the spot for the island’s best Italian fare, and even then had received a number of accolades, including the Conde Nast Traveler US highlighting Cucina in its Hot list in May 2004 as serving the best Italian food in Asia. So having now been transformed from a restaurant that resembled a quaint Italian square, into an ultra-fashionable restaurant with a contemporary, sophisticated design, combined with innovative, modern Italian cuisine, one has to wonder what additional tributes and awards the restaurant can now look forward to receiving.
Cucina still provides an intimate atmosphere, created by soft candlelight that radiates from classic pillar candles and uniquely large glass lamps placed in the middle of the tables, and the focal point is still the open kitchen, complete with redbrick, wood-fired pizza oven, in the main dining area, and this is from where Italian Chef Fabritzio Corcettais creates authentic rustic Italian dishes that are fresh, artfully presented and full of the true flavors of Italy.
Highlights from the new menu include signature dishes such as Branzino Arrositi (Pan fried Seabass with baby squid and artichokes), Prosciutto E Ruco La Pizza (Mozzarella, Parma ham, Rocket and Parmesan cheese). And a must-try among the desserts is the definitely the home-made Tiramisu. In addition, to provide guests with alternatives from the everyday menu, Chef Fabritzio also designs regular weekly specials, and promotions, such as the recent and very popular Black Truffle Menu.
